High Levels of Calcium Hardness In Your Pool

Whether or not you know, calcium is essential for your swimming pool but it needs to be maintained. In fact, calcium is essential for your pool to keep the interior finish intact but in parts of the United States, there is an issue of having too much calcium in the water. One of those areas is ours, San Diego and many other parts of the Southwestern United States. When dealing with a residential or commercial swimming pool the swimming pool industry recommends on average 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm) Calcium Hardness but what happens if it is below 200 or above 400 ppm?

In some parts of the country, they actually sell calcium because it’s recommended to have no less than 200 ppm in the pool. If that happens it can actually cause issues to the structure of the swimming pool. Typically you might even hear the words, “leaching of the plaster” which basically means it’s deteriorating. On the west coast, the thought of adding calcium to the swimming pool seems crazy because in many parts of the Southwest US the calcium levels coming out of the tap are 400 ppm and higher!

When Calcium Hardness (CH) levels are above 400 ppm it ends up causing major issues to your swimming pool. Calcium actually scales the interior finish, the tile, the plumbing as well as the pool’s filtration equipment. This occurs because as water evaporates in the pool the hardness minerals stay behind and gradually build up in concentration.

When dealing with high levels of CH, the easiest solution to this was to drain the pool and refill it. The challenge with this is it not only wastes water but the water coming out of the tap is already hard. That is why at Pure Water Industries we want to introduce you to The Puripool Process and Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration for your swimming pool. The Puripool Process can help lower the following:

      • Calcium Hardness
      • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
      • Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
      • Phosphates
      • Nitrates
      • Salts
      • Waterborne Diseases

We have recycled more than 50,000-million gallons of water for both residential and commercial swimming pools. When compared to a drain and refill there really isn’t any comparison. Not only can we conserve up to 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool but there is no downtime during the process, we put drinking quality water back in the pool, and the water no only looks better but it feels better too.
