Lowering Calcium Hardness In Swimming Pools
When it comes to owning a residential and commercial swimming pool in the San Diego area you’re going to have to familiarize yourself with Calcium Hardness. Many homeowners aren’t aware of it as it relates to their swimming pool but if you have scaling on your faucets, showerheads, and countertops could you imagine what it is doing to your swimming pool? This is a frustrating issue that many swimming pool owners deal with not only in San Diego but in many parts of the country as well. It’s calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals in tap water and there it is extremely challenging to prevent from happening. So, how do you deal with it?
Unfortunately, when individuals build swimming pools they are not made aware of this problem before it appears. Typically, you will see it on your water tile line, water features, spillways, and salt chlorinator if you have one. The other thing that the hard water will scale is your filtration equipment and motor. Over time, this will decrease the lifespan of your equipment and interior finish of the swimming pool.
As water evaporates in the swimming pool the calcium and other hardness minerals remain in the pool. In the swimming pool industry, the normal levels of Calcium Hardness are between 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm). However, in many areas of the country, tap water can be measured at 400 ppm and higher! Specifically, in San Diego, we usually see hardness levels measured at 300 ppm and higher.
If you talk to many in the swimming pool industry they will tell you to drain and refill your swimming pool. Remember though that the hardness levels coming out of the tap are sometimes higher than what is recommended and in California where water is at a premium this isn’t a practice we recommend. That is why at Pure Water Industries we recommend The Puripool Process for both residential and commercial swimming pools. This is a mobile service that comes to your pool and recycles the pool water onsite using Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration.
The biggest key to our service is the fact that we are able to lower Calcium Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), phosphates, nitrates, and waterborne diseases without draining the pool. This is one of the biggest selling points with our service. There are numerous other benefits but if you want to swim in softer/superior water quality and try to prevent scaling using The Puripool Process is the best way to go. If you should have any questions about our service our how it can benefit you, please contact us today!
