As summer is quickly approaching, most homeowners start thinking about how they can get their pools ready for the upcoming swim season. Most of the time, they only think about increased chlorine use and longer pool pump running times, but there is so much more to be concerned about:

It’s important to begin by taking a sample of the swimming pool water to your local trusted pool store and have them check the calcium hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), chlorine, pH, phosphates and cyanuric acid (CYA). Most pool owners’ worst enemies during the hot summer months are high levels of calcium and CYA. It’s recommended to have calcium hardness levels between 200-400 parts per million (ppm) and CYA between 40-120 ppm. As water evaporates from the pool and fill water is added, calcium levels rise. When the calcium levels reach 600 ppm it is recommended that the pool be drained. The same applies to CYA when the level approaches 100 ppm. Calcium tends to act as a sponge and literally consumes the chlorine in pools and leaves unsightly stains on the tile and plaster surfaces of the pool. CYA is a stabilizer and helps chlorine function, but when it gets too high it binds up all chemicals, thus turning pools green. When discussing swimming pool water maintenance most experts will recommend a drain and refill every 2-3 years.

Pure Water Industries, Inc. has designed a mobile filtration unit that will eliminate the need for pool owners to drain their pools! In the past two years, this process has recycled and conserved more than 5 million gallons of San Diego’s precious water. Water conservation is front page news nearly every day in Southern California and most of the Southwest. “PST’s goal is to continue to recycle swimming pool water because we can lower the calcium levels to less than tap water”, said Bruce Wettstein, President, Pool Services Technologies, Inc. Reverse osmosis filtration trailers conserve 80-90% of the existing water, saving all of the water that normally would have been used to refill the pool and leave your pool water feeling silky smooth; and not to mention, less chlorine usage makes any pool safer to swim in.

Pool Services Technologies, Inc., founded in 2009 and headquartered in Escondido, California, provides an alternative to draining and refilling swimming pools – a necessary part of pool ownership. Utilizing a 40,000 gallon per day mobile Reverse Osmosis trailer and recovering nearly 85% of the existing swimming pool water, this service realizes huge water conservation results and provides superior water quality; surpassing what can be obtained from the tap. In addition to saving so much of the existing water in the swimming pool, the need for elevated pool chemicals diminishes as the chemicals can now do their job in cleaner, purer water.

Additionally, the company strives to provide swimming pool owners with the knowledge needed to maintain their pools at healthy, safe levels. Discounted water test kits and water chemistry tools are explained and offered, should the pool owner wish to take it to the next level. The company preaches water conservation, and prudent water chemistry levels, providing the best quality water and swim experience for all swimming pools – residential and commercial.
